Idea
A subscription community for Web3 investors, built around portfolio management using fundamental analysis. Members got three model portfolios by risk profile, asset analysis (FDV, GitHub commits, TVL, active users, fees and revenue, unlocks, holders), weekly reviews of DeFi deposits, a low-risk airdrop tracker and access to venture deals.
I initiated the product as a way to monetise another, less sustainable product. I designed its learning loop and ran it for about a year; analysis and investment decisions stayed with the analyst.

Learning
Each week's loop included a digest with portfolio results, news, passive-income yields, project analyses and venture statuses, a weekly deck and a live call. Entering venture deals (from $10K) went through onboarding with the analyst, and every member who decided to leave the community was interviewed after that decision.
Improvement cycle
I built a metric tree on the HEART framework: state metrics plus churn indicators: the member doesn't apply the practice, goes silent, doesn't understand. Elements added over the iterations: a free in-depth course for members without a grasp of the fundamentals, educational webinars, a Python bot for personalised notifications and a rates parser.
The bot let members subscribe only to the activities they wanted and logged their choices; weekly calls and lending-protocol rates came out as the most valued.
Unit economics ended the product. Subscriptions brought about $2K a month (plus side sales) against about $4.1K of delivery cost; break-even needed twice as many subscribers. The founder closed the community in August 2025 on this analysis.
Student feedback
- Churn reasons: 75% cited price, 25% personal circumstances
- After the community closed, 2 members placed ~$24K under portfolio management at ~$3.7K commission, and 3 more entered venture deals at $10K each
